Gay History To Hit Classrooms In January

Mixed Emotions Over The Addition...A law that requires California schools to teach gay history will go into effect in January. How gay history is taught will be a mixture of state and local cooperation. The state will create the basic framework. Individual lesson plans will be left up to the local school districts. The historical legislation is meant for all grades K-12. The author of the bill, Sen. Mark Leno, said different parts of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender history will be introduced at different grades, when it's age-appropriate. Emotions on the legislation are mixed. Gay history won't be physically printed in textbooks until 2015, the next re-printing. But, starting in January, educators will be required to teach it with supplemental materials.
