...other big names performed a dramatic reading of "The World of Nick Adams" at San Francisco's Davies Symphony Hall.

Some 2,500 people attended the star-studded event, which began with a video featuring Newman, who died of cancer Sept. 26 at the age of 83.

The event benefited Newman's The Painted Turtle, a camp for children with life-threatening illnesses at Lake Hughes. The performance closed with singer Bonnie Raitt performing "Put a Little Love Into Your Heart," dedicated to the acting legend. Newman and his foundation have given more than $250 million to charity over the years.

Newman died last month at age 83 after a battle with cancer.
