Simpson must face trial on kidnapping, armed robbery and other charges stemming from a suspected sports memorabilia heist, a justice of the peace ruled Wednesday, despite fierce defense attacks that characterized prosecution witnesses as con artists and crooks out for a buck. Justice of the Peace Joe M. Bonaventure ruled that all charges in the 12-count complaint would remain against Simpson and co-defendants Clarence "C.J." Stewart and Charles "Charlie" Ehrlich.

San Francisco Approves Identification Cards for Illegal Immigrant, Transgender Residents

SAN FRANCISCO —  The city of San Francisco has tentatively approved a program to provide identification cards to illegal immigrants, transgender people and other residents who may be unable or unwilling to get a state-issued driver's license.  The Board of Supervisors, San Francisco's version of a city council, voted 10-1 Tuesday to approve the program late Tuesday. Next week, they will take a final vote, which is considered a formality. Mayor Gavin Newsom has said he intends to sign it.

Arnold Schwarzenegger plans to meet with the group representing Hollywood producers to see if there's anything he can do to help resolve the writers strike. Schwarzenegger spokesman Aaron McLear said that he doesn't know where the private discussions will take place on Tuesday. The meeting will take place after the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers took out full-page ads in trade papers to state their case in the strike by Writers Guild of America.

The Medical Board of California is investigating whether the license of Dr. Jan Adams should be revoked or suspended after he was arrested twice in the past four years for alcohol-related offenses, records show.

Hours later, she found the man stuck in the small door and called police. When they arrived four minutes later, the man was dead, News4Jax.com reported.

Read more...SAN FRANCISCO  —  Investigators want to know whether a ship pilot under investigation in San Francisco Bay's biggest oil spill in nearly two decades initially played down the damage to his vessel, Coast Guard officials said Monday.  Immediately after the Cosco Busan struck the Bay Bridge last week, Capt. John Cota quickly radioed authorities to report the vessel had "touched" the bridge, according to an official with knowledge of the investigation.

Rapper Kanye West's Mother Dies at Age 58

Read more...LOS ANGELES —  Donda West, mother of Kanye West and former chairwoman of Chicago State University's English department, has died, a spokesman for the rapper said. She was 58.  Donda West died Saturday night in Los Angeles, said the spokesman, who asked for anonymity because not all family members had been notified.  "The family respectfully asks for privacy during this time of grief," the spokesman said.
